Boy Crisis is an electropop group hailing from Brooklyn. The band attended Wesleyan University and met in 2005. The were signed to B-Unique Records, a UK label home to artist such as Aqualung, Kaiser Chiefs, Alkaline Trio, Hot Hot Heat, an many more. The band dropped their debut album, “Tulipomania,” in the UK and is already receiving rave reviews and are being compared to the next 3OH!3. “Tulipomania,” explores the different elements of the electronica genre while still providing some of the sickest guitar riffs. The albums highlights include, “Dress to Digress,” which has the whole “Don’t Trust Me,” attitude going on. The very sexy, “1981,” pays homage to Prince in its ultra synthy manner. Last, is the standout track “A Ganglion of Lightning’s,” which its carefree lyrics flow effortless over its trip-hop beat.

Now that we all have fell back in love with the 80’s (well, most of us), the natural progression for 2010 is the 90’s. With that is the return of cycle shorts! They seem to literally poke out of everything on the spring/summer ‘10 runways. Cycle shorts are going to be this coming seasons version of leggings. Which means….never wear them alone! Cover your tush girls! Wear cycle shorts under mini skirts and super short boy shorts, you will find them a necessity!

This weeks DIY was inspired by an Urban Outfitters kit. The idea is quite simple and can easily be made using everyday materials from your local craft and hardware stores!
You will need the following items for this project:
-2 yards of 5/8″ ribbon, either double-sided or grosgrain
- 12 small washers, we used 3/8″ flat washers
-4 medium washers, we used 3/8″ fender washers
-6 large washers, we used 1/2″ fender washers
To get started:
Thread a small washer onto your ribbon about 8″ from the end. Add another small washer to the ribbon making sure it under laps the first washer. **Note: The washers may look different on each side, make sure you stick with the same side the whole way through**
Use the following pattern to complete the necklace:
S-S-S-S-S-S-M-M-L-L-L-L-L-L-M-M-S-S-S-S-S-S
S=small, M=medium, L=Large
Leave another 8″ after your last washer is added. you can either use a “fray stop” product from the craft store or lightly burn ends of the ribbon to finish the edges.

For their 6th studio album release twins, Tegan and Sarah forced themselves to sit in a room and write together for a change. What they got was a heavy emotional album about obsession with romantic ideals. Produced by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) and Howard Redekopp, Sainthood has obvious characteristics of electronica, punk, mixed with darker guitar riffs and catchy repetitive chorus’s. Sainthood did not stray too far from the sister’s previous releases, however it is a bit more experimental with a slightly more mature twist.

The Bib Necklace is the key accessory for this season. Go for BIG and BOLD! Bibs look perfect with many different necklines especially strapless and one-shoulder. They can be worn under or over collars creating a “built-in” effect. With trying to cut corners in our budgets, the bib necklace is the chicest most effective way to re-vamp and freshen up an outfit. My personal favorite look is taking an overly jeweled Bib and pairing it with a plain white tee and distressed jeans.

Finally! The world has been waiting. Electro-pop princess Annie set to release her sophomore album, Don’t Stop, on Oct 19th in the UK and Nov 17 in the US. After a long battle between record labels, Annie teamed up with producer Paul Epworth (of Florence and The Machine and Bloc Party fame) to record a few new songs for the FINAL album. Don’t Stop will easily be noted as one of the best pop albums of 2009 with angst-y kiss off lyrics, bumping beats and hypnotic synths.

Bows are all grown up and are seen all over for fall/winter’09. A simple yet understated detail, the bow has been used in various shapes and sizes. Its a real simple and elegant way to draw in the waistline with skirts or this seasons over sized blazer. We have seen the bow used in necklines to draw attention to the face while creating a polished lady-like look. Bows are even being used in the actual architecture of garments. For the bolder, try the over sized look as seen on the DVF resort’10 runways. I think we can expect this trend to carry through to spring’10.
