Espadrilles have been synonymous with summer for centuries. These rope covered wedges create dramatic heights, comfort, style and are widely welcomed back as a key shoe trend for Summer 2010! Espadrille wedges are coming in all varieties for the season from ultra femme with bows, to a thick strap utilitarian style, to more traditional in yummy neutral and pastel hues. Our favorite version, which we cant get enough of are the edgy bootie-like, super stacked wedges by Sigerson Morrison (below). Whatever your style may be, espadrilles are an easy way to jump into the summer season.

We fell in love with Roger Viver’s enamel and python necklace in April’s edition if Elle, but not it’s $2,385 price tag. So we decided to DIY!
You will need:
- approx. 16″ leather or leather-like necklace with lobster clasp
- 24mm neon pink and neon green and black split jump rings (we used 4 for our necklace)
- large neon patterned metal chain links
-medium silver metal chain links
- black teardrop shape wooden pendant
- metal screw closure key chains (2)
To Get Started:
Remove the lobster clasps on the leather necklace keeping the jump rings in tact. Attach metal key rings on both ends of the necklace. Next attach a neon green split ring , medium silver chain link, and large neon patterned chain link to the key chain. Then attach another neon split ring ti the previous one. Hook two more medium silver chain links to the large patterned one and interlock with the second split ring and first medium silver chain link. Add black split ring and black wooden teardrop pendant to the large patterned chain link and let it dangle. Next link another black split ring to the pink. Attach two silver links in between the pink and black and let dangle. Finally, attach large patterned chain link to the black split ring and complete necklace bu closing the link in the key chain.

“Welcome to the 22ndCentury, religion, science fiction, technology…everybody’s dancing,” Kelis sings on the albums opening track “22ndcentury.” The song accurately sums up the tone of Kelis’ interscope label debut. Her last effort, “Keliswas here,” found the singer departing from long time collaborators, The Neptunes, and the overall result was mixed. She partnered up with Black Eyed Pea’s front man, Will.i.am, to reevaluate the direction of her next project. The direction was to capitalize on the euro dance craze that has been heating up the charts lately. Kelis hooked up with some of the best electronica producers out there like: David Guetta, Benny Benassi, Dj Switch, Jean Baptiste, and Will.i.am. The albums standout moments include, the commanding “22nd Century,” the pulsating, “4th of July (Fireworks),” “Home,” “Emancipate,” and last “Brave.” Overall, Flesh Tones works exceptionally well and with one listen you will find yourself screaming right along with some of the catchiest hooks from the new dance floor diva.

Bangles are back in a big way, and when we say big we mean big! Bangles are stacked super high this season. This trend is super fun to play with by mixing and matching colors and textures. Stack only one hand and be mindful of the bangle size and wrist proportion. If you have smaller petite wrists opt for three to four bracelets. The key to pulling off this trend is to pick a theme (like Marni’s oversized futuristic look, below) or a color story and have fun mixing and matching. You may have to tweak the placement of the bangles to find a happy balance. If you feel the need to show your bare (opposite) hand some love, then it’s ok to wear a single delicate silver/gold, leather or cord bracelette. A few small charms are ok, but that should be your limit!

We could not be happier for the release of Crystal Castles new album. Ironically the Ontario based band titled the second album the same as the first, “Crystal Castles”. Some may say that it’s because the first album was so horrible that this was a “do-over”. Well, we love the first album and the second is even better! For the release of “Crystal Castles”, Alice Glass and Ethan Kath took a bit of a different approach on the album by using hints of shoegaze (as heard in “Celestica”) and dreamy synths. Glass’s distorted vocals remain consistent to that of the previous album, being compared to the Knife’s Karin Dreijer-Anderson/ It’s as if she takes on different characters for each song. The overall album is super satisfying, clarifying, and quite beautiful.

Nautical Stripes are a nostalgic trend that seems to never go out of style. The stripes were really mode popular by such icons as Bridgette Bardot and Jacqueline Kennedy. Updated for this Spring/Summer, nautical stripes have taken on a edgier feel (think Kate Moss). Pair a stripe shirt with a black boyfriend blazer and skinny cut pants or leggings for a modern minimalistic edge or try a floral print skirt for an edgy feminine look. We are loving the nautical stripe trend and how it can be mixed with nearly anything to create a fresh (yet classic) look.

Jamaican colors have always been in and out of fashion. In the late nineties, Gwen Stefani made the rasta come back in a big way! In small doses, wearing the green, yellow, and red combo can be quite chic and very culturally eclectic. The trend fizzled fast but has made yet another visit in fashion for Spring/Summer 2010. The Spring/Summer 2010 Blumarine runway was filled with irie inspiration. The colors were represented in everything from dresses to shirts, to shoes and bags. To avoid looking like a dancehall queen, try this trend in small doses.
