Jewelry has taken on a softer side for the season. Everything from braided rope, to chiffon, to what appears to be twisted scrap fabric, are being used for summers hottest accessories. With the comeback of 1990’s friendship bracelets and the timeless craft of crocheting, the accesories have literally taken homemade to another level. So, store away your heavy metals and try lighter, cheery, fabric jewelry. The perfect adornment for your sweet floral summer dresses!

In a previous Trend Alert we talked we talked about how fringe was a big trend for the season. It’s everywhere from the runway to shoes and accessories to this week’s DIY. We will show you how to create the fringe trend with a few t-shirts from home.
You Will Need:
- (2) t-shirts of similar fabrics (we recommend a lightweight cotton)
- Scissors
-Sewing machine
To Get Started:
Evenly cut both sides of the t-shirt you want to put the fringe on. Using the other t-shirt measure (2)6″ panels (starting from the side seams). Make sure the panels are long enough to fit your t-shirt. (Measure length from under arm to the end of shirt) Cut out your panels.
Turning your t-shirt inside out, place the panels between the front and back layers of your shirt, making sure the sides match up. Stitch 1/2″ seam and finish raw edges to prevent shredding. Repeat on other side.
Finally turn t-shirt right side out and create fringe. Cut 1/2″ strips all the way down both panels making sure you have a small amount of uncut room close to the seam.
*Once you wash t-shirt the fringe will roll and shrink*
*T-shirt is size med*

For Robyn’s 3rd us album, and 5th international, she wanted to give her fans new music as soon as it was made instead of keeping her fans waiting another 2-3 years for an album. So the ending result is her Body Talk album being released in 3 installments with 8 tracks on them. Here we have the first installment, and all we can say is thank God Robyn is back. She hooks up with the same producers that created the magic behind her 2005 self-titled album. The only difference is the album is concise, cohesive, and tighter. The album opener, “Don’t Fucking tell Me What to Do,” lists off all of robin’s vices that are slowly killing her, all over an electro kick drum. The album’s shining moments are the emotionally chilling, “Dancing On My Own,” the anti-love anthem, “Cry When You Get Older,” and the summer anthem, “Dancehall Queen.” Overall, Body Talk Pt. 1 quenches your Robyn thirst but definitely leaves you dying for body talk pt. 2.

Patterns have been dominating everything from dresses to pants to bags. From bold Geometrics to Hawaiian print floral. Its time to give your eyes a rest and go monochromatic! The trend id a bold, sophisticated, refreshing change. The key to this trend is layering colors of the same hue. For the bolder, try head to toe in a vivid red or bright orange. Felling a bit timid? We love tone on tone neutrals in a bare fleshy pink or khaki green. If monochromatic is just too boring for you, spice it up and add some texture.

It’s been four years since the Scissor Sisters released their sophomore album, Ta-Dah, the album that launched the Scissor Sisters to superstar status in Europe. They spent the next few years promoting and touring, they lost a member, signed to a new label, and came back with a kick ass album. Now, Their plans are to take another stab at reaching that superstar status in the states, and they certainly have the album that is sure to accomplish the goal. The New York native’s hooked up with Stuart Price to produce the album, which was genius, after seeing the brilliant work price turned out for Madonna’s “Confessions on a Dance floor Album,” and even Kylie Minogue’s new album, “Aphrodite.” The overall result is a cohesive bass heavy, retro, yet, still modern dance record. The album’s shining moments include the six-minute, buzz single, “Invisible Light,” which bloggers are calling the next “Thriller.” Other brilliant moments include the first single, “Fire with Fire,” which easily could have fit on their last record, “Harder you get,” the albums rocker, the synth heavy, “Something Like This,” “Skin This Cat,” and the euro trash, “Sex and Violence.”

Ladies, please put away the neo grunge oversized plaid shirts that scream “hipster”. Its a new year and a new season. Besides we know your you’re hot under there. Instead try a Hawaiian print shirt in place of it. Hawaiian print is hot for the summer and give a slight pin-up quality to any outfit. Try wearing it oversized with skinny jeans and wedges or play up its vintage look and pair it with high waist hot pants!

London duo Mock & Toof released their debut album, Turning Echoes, last month. These Brits actually were introduced to the world by a bootleg Maddonna mix. Mock & Toof have been dubbed as a DFA artist due to the countless releases on the label. However, Turning Echoes was released on Tiny Sticks, Mock & Toof’s own label. Rest assure the production of the album is amazing. Turning Echoes is a great combination of disco, post-punk, and deep-house. The guys team up with German artist Pollyester and Gavin Gordon for vocals to bring a brilliant quality of songwriting to the album. “Farewell To Wando”, the albums opener, is our personal favorite. The track reminds us of something straight off Yacht’s See Mystery Lights. Overall we were impressed by Turning Echoes. It’s the perfect indie forward album for after a night out.

The Cowboy and Indian look has come and gone over years and is back for the season. Specifically suede fringe and touches of Navajo influences. D&G’s Summer 2010 collection was chock full of the trend from leather accents on juicy denim to our favorite studded seude fringe micro mini. Like and themed trend it’s best to use it in moderation to avoid looking too costume-y. Another alternative is to try the trend in a less obvious way like the Acne’s pastel fringe jacket (below).

Part Ke$ha, part M.I.A., throw in some Peaches, and Santogold, and you have the American Born, Honk Kong raised, and Paris based DJ/electronica artist Uffie. Her real name, Anna-Catherine Hartley, was heavily influenced by the city life after growing up in Hong Kong and Paris. She originally was studying fashion at the International School of Paris and when a music opportunity presented itself, she dropped out of school and perused music full time. She was signed in 2006 and the rest is history. Her first major label debut, “Sex, Dreams, and Denim Jeans,” showcases how extraordinary electronic artist can truly be. She hooks up with The Neptune’s, Madonna producer, Mirwais Ahmadzaï, and the Rapture to produce some buzz worthy tracks. The album’s highlights include: the vocoder happy, “Pop the Glock,” first single which includes a collaborations with N.E.R.D. front man Pharrell Williams, “ADD SUV,” the dear and addictive “First Love,” which is the closet thing to a ballad this album contains. Other favorites include, “Mc’s Can Kiss,” and the Siouxie and the Banshee’s cover of “Hong Kong Garden.” Overall, this album flows exceptionally well, and it almost makes you want all artists to come with a Parisian and Asian background.

Crochet has come a long way since the days of crafts and doilies. This season crochet made a come back with the help of Chanel and Issey Miyake. The trend has since been taken to the streets and is perfect to wear for all occasions. We are in love with little crochet dresses (like Top Shop’s, below) that can be worn during hot summer days with cowboy boots or sandals. We also love Issey Miyake’s crocheted separates which make amazing beach cover-ups. For those not ready yo sport the full frock, try crochet accessories which are also a big trend for the season.
