Ellie Goulding is a 23-year-old singer/songwriter from London, England. Goulding was originally inspired by folk music throughout her teens; she would later become heavily influenced by electronic music during the years she spent at the University of Kent. She signed to Polydor Records in 2009 and rose to fame by topping the BBC Sound of 2010 poll (Marina and the Diamonds also topped that list), as well as the 2010 BRIT Awards critic choice award. Ellie released her debut album, “Lights,” in March 2010, and she uses her genius of both Folk music and Electronic music and blends them perfectly. The album opens with “Guns and horses,” and it is the prime example of the blending of the two genres. She sings the verses over a simple acoustic guitar and electronic drum, then the chorus breaks and she takes you to a dance floor ready track, and back again. Other album highlights include the pop perfection, “Starry Eyed,” “Under The Sheets,” which showcases a hint of Ellie’s Urban Side, “Every Time You Go,” hints at an electro rock side of Goulding, and last, “Your Biggest Mistake,” sounds like a track that would find a home on Lily Allen’s latest album.
